Ruth Neuenschwander Wegmueller came to the Monroe Swiss Singers
a little later in life, but her loyalty and dedication to the group
was as if she'd been with us for years. Ruth enjoyed rediscovering
her Swiss roots in the alto section of the Monroe Swiss Singers, so
much so, that her son and daughter-in-law, John and Becky, also became
members of the Monroe Swiss Singers.
The daughter of George and Louise Roder Neuenschwander, Ruth Marie was born January 12, 1924 in Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin. She and Ernest C. Wegmueller were married on August 25, 1945 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe. In her earlier years, Ruth worked as a registered nurse at Monroe's St. Clare Hospital and as an administrator for the Monroe Manor Nursing Home. She also farmed with her husband in Jefferson Township, Green County.
In addition to the Monroe Swiss Singers, Ruth was a devoted member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Monroe and the Monroe Arts Center. She was also a 4-H leader for many years. She spoke Swiss, enjoyed many visits to Switzerland and other places throughout the world, and loved line dancing. She was a regular at the Sunday afternoon old-time dances at Turner Hall in Monroe, where she enjoyed dancing and spending time with her many friends.
Predeceased by her husband, Ruth was mother to a son and three daughters, grandmother to eleven, and had a brand new great-grandchild.
May we never forget or lose Ruth's enthusiasm and dedication to our Swiss heritage!
